Senior students in computer systems technology, mechanical engineering technology and uncrewed aircraft systems classes presented their final capstone projects to their peers, faculty, staff and other stakeholders. These projects focus on the instruction and experience students have gained throughout their education at #KStateSalina and allow seniors to work with a client to create an innovative solution to a real-world challenge. CMST student projects included creating a website for a local client, developing an experimental tool to streamline user interaction with a popular website, utilizing virtual reality technology to analyze computer capabilities and creating a video game with Unreal Engine 5. In MET, students designed and assembled safety equipment around a motion platform, and constructed a prototype of a mobile work center for composite manufacturing. UAS students developed an AI solution to detect defects in powerline poles and built an infrared illuminator for nighttime public safety operations in drones. #ExperienceMatters

Twenty-five professional pilot students recently collected more than $2,000 in donations to provide gifts and essential needs to hospitalized children at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita as a part of the Pilots For Kids effort! The students organized the logistics, fundraised and hand-delivered the gifts to the patients in the hospital. #KStateSalina's Pilots For Kids chapter is also planning future visits to help more hospitalized youth and their families. It was a great turn out for our Civic Lecture Series discussing home insecurity in central Kansas and what some in our community are doing to combat it! More than 50 members of our community attended and contributed to the discussion. Thanks to Chris Goodson and Karolyn Moore with the McPherson Housing Coalition for leading a thoughtful dialogue and how they have had success in helping the unhoused find permanent solutions. Be sure to experience our next Civic Lecture Series community conversation in September!
