Event Description:
Not Rated -- Documentary -- 82 min. Shown Saturday, November 14 at 11:00am only. Kansas vs Darwin is the third film in this year's series sponsored by the "Free State Traveling Picture Show" through the Kansas Film Commission. In May of 2005, a three-member subcommittee of the Kansas State Board of Education held hearings to determine whether Charles Darwin's long-held theory of evolution should be challenged in public school science curriculum. At stake was, in effect, the definition of science for Kansas school children. The film is a heady, absorbing swirl of politics, science and religion, frequently pushing the viewer from one, compelling point of view to its polar opposite. The result is a piercing dialectic with a center of surprising, stunning humanity. Tickets are $6 at the door. Conversation will follow the screening at the Cinema. Leading the disucssion will be Jeff Tamblyn, Director, Co-Writer, and Co-Producer of the film.
